DAY
THREE IN SAN FRANCISCO
|
|
Critical
Mass #83 Today-Don't Miss It!
These are the pictures
that I could not figure out what to do with so I put
them all together here.
|
These pictures are of Corkers. We need
to learn how to do this much better in Chicago. We can
still use this opportunity to get our message to the Autobound.
In San Francisco this ability was lost when the cops cracked
down. Massers were cordoned off from the drivers and the
drivers started to look at the Mass as a sanctioned parade
and not a protest. Now if a Masser stops to talk to a
motorist the cops swoop down and start to get in the Massers
face. I like to think that we have a pretty good rapport
with most motorists. Sure there have been a few-too many-altercations
with drivers but I like to think that we have done pretty
well in getting our message out to the Autobound. But
then again I am an "Uncle".

I wish that I had seen this bike at
nite. I heard that it shot sparks a dozen feet into the
night sky. From what I was able to intimate this was a
Chunk 666 creation. I pretended to know nothing about
anyting except that this bike is worth seeing

I am ashamed to admit it but I have
forgotten the rider name...the dog is Fred. Both of them
made the front pageof the San Franciscox Eaminer the day
after, in full color no less! Fred is in the basket and
a you can tell from the bag in hand the rider is a bit
in the bag.

As with
any mass there are bound to be a few pissed off
drivers. I could not tell if it was the magnitude
of the Mass or if the drivers in San Francisco
were really pissed at the riders. I think the
the guy who tried to organize his Auto Mass might
not have gotten many active participants but I
wondered if he did not stir up some hot heads?

Jon Winston has been a contributor to
our Chicago Critical Mass list for quite awhile now. It
was a pleaseure to meet him in person. It was even more
special to share his son Theo's first Mass. Jon made plans
for a bunch of Chicagoans and San Franciscans to get together
one evening. Ed and I had plans for that evening before
we came out. Next time Jon.

Riding a bike is a great thing. Riding
your bike in a Critical Mass is an even better thing.
Riding your bike with your sister in a Critical Mass in
another city is the best! The really funny part is that
most of my Chicago friends got to meet Elizabeth before
I ever got to see her!

As we went past this expressway entrance
a cheer went up when we saw that the Officers Friendly
keeeping us, and everyone else, from entering one of the
expressways. We went on our way with a wave.
