After Kristen's essay in the Reader we
had lots of new faces in the mass. As I was riding to the
Daley Plaza I fliered a guy with a bike that told me he
too had read the article. His first question was When is
the next Urban Assault. To this question I told him he could
do that every night of the week if it so pleased him. It
took him a moment for him to realize that it, the UA, is
a very liquid thing. Personally every ride I go on has some
sort of UA aspect to it. I don't know if he made it but
I certainly saw a bunch of new faces and heard them say
that they too had read Kristen's piece in the reader..

This ride did mark the departure
from Chicago of two of our more vocal and organized
activists. We will all miss the insight and dedication
of Adam Kessel and Dan Kliman. Leann and Ephriam are
also leaving Chicago I have heard that they are either
going to Costa Rica or Alabama.
Either way its a third-world country!

At the Mass we learned that Counting Chris is going
south to follow the boat racing season. We have lost
some of our most colorful and dedicated riders just
as we welcome lots of new riders. New ideas come to
us as ours are spread like seeds on the wind. |

After much footwork by TC and a
few others
Wild Chicago showed up for our ride this month.
For those of you who have successfully resisted
the Tube and those of you outside the Second City,
Wild Chicago is a local show that takes a look at
alternative Chicago and Chicagoans. They had tried
to get to the July Mass but could not make it. I
was glad to see that they indeed made to a Mass.

John Greenfield caught a ride
on Matts Fresh Air trailer so that he could entertain
the Mass on the road. Certainly this is the sort
of street theater that makes us less threatening
to the average member of the Autobound society.
This was a first for Chicago to have live entertainment

When it was time to get a move on
we had to vote on a map. This is always very fun
in Chicago. As always the "other" map
has us going into the 18th Precinct to visit our
friends and sometimes not. TC conducted the vote
and had the say on where we went.

Will the shows host was
all for us going on the confrontational
route to the north. The Southside ride proposed
a route that took us through a number of
neighborhoods historic and not.
The southside ride won out.

As I have told the police, and
tell again here, I don't care where we go just that
we are going. Both maps had the same destination
Leann and Ephriams place for a party. Some others
went to Irazu for dinner.

It was good to see a few intersections
being well corked by riders and a couple of them
right in front of Officer Friendly
